Nothin' But Fun Running 13.1!

It was exactly one year ago that I embarked on a life goal...parenting a 1 year old! Well, that and deciding to run a marathon. Now that one year old just turned two, my first marathon has been run and I’m looking for new challenges!

I’ve decided to continue volunteering for The Leukemia & Lymphoma Society (LLS) as a volunteer fundraiser and help them continue the fight against blood-related cancers.

The mission of LLS is to cure leukemia, lymphoma, Hodgkin’s disease and myeloma and improve the quality of life of patients and their families.
Since the first funding in 1954 LLS has awarded over $240 million in research grants.

And the research is working. 25 years ago, only 5% of children diagnosed with leukemia survived. Today, 81% of children with leukemia are surviving . These are statistics worth running for!

Last year, in addition to my fundraising efforts, Team in Training (TNT-sponsored by LLS) helped me achieve my “marathoner” status. I ran my first marathon, The Suzuki Rock & Roll in San Diego, on June 2nd, 2002 in a “blazing, wink, wink” 5 1/2 hours.

Well, it seems I couldn’t get enough of the organization. The Fall season of last year I participated in TNT again; this time as a Mentor for the inaugural 1/2 Marathon team.

I found this experience to be 100x more rewarding knowing that not only did every one of my mentees cross the finish line at the Lake Tahoe 1/2 Marathon this past October, they raised thousands more for LLS. (I also made it across the finish line in 2.5 hours...what a speed demon I am!)
I have been recruited to be the Team Captain for the 2003 Spring Season’s 1/2 Marathon Team. Our team will be participating in the Vancouver BC 1/2 Marathon and the Avenue of the Giants 1/2 Marathon on Sunday, May 4th.

While my responsibilities this season have grown in supporting 75 new participants, the Mentors and our coaches, I have also committed to raising an additional $5000 for LLS. As this will be my final season with TNT, I'm excited to go out with a BANG!

I’m asking you to help me achieve my fundraising goal by making a generous contribution to The Leukemia & Lymphoma Society. My goal is to raise $5000 by April 15st. (Please visit my Donation Page for more details)

I’m very excited about the challenges ahead. I look forward to my final season with TNT and bringing you along for the fun.

With Heartfelt Thanks,
-Jennifer
